COBANK Peak Performers:  Congratulations to Reese Jansa on her selection to the CoBank Peak Performers to be held on August 21-24, 2019. Reese was one of eight participants from The First Tee to be selected to experience a round of a lifetime with one of the greats of the game along the Pacific Coast at a top 100 golf course in the Los Angeles area. Participants will stay and dine at LA’s oceanfront Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes for three days/nights, participate in a breakfast and round of golf, and spend time visiting some of California landmarks while enjoying the beauty of the California coast.

Joe Louis Barrow Jr. Life Skills and Leadership Academy:  Congratulations to Jack Kray and Shannon McCormick on being selected to attend the Life Skills and Leadership Academy on July 24-30, 2019. Hosted by First Tee headquarters, the academy recognizes and rewards exceptional teen participants who are prepared to build upon leadership skills introduced through programs at First Tee chapters. Top coaches in First Tee’s network deliver the golf and leadership instruction that incorporate the First Tee’s Nine Core Values in a concentrated, week-long event. Participants build skills preparing them for success beyond the golf course. They will experience championship golf, career exploration, dorm living at Boise State University and meeting other teens from around the country sharing golf as their common bond.

Perfect Sense Unified Challenge: Congratulations to Shannon McCormick on being selected to attend the Perfect Sense Unified Challenge to be held on June 23-27, 2019.  The Perfect Sense Unified Challenge will be a President’s Cup team event with golfers from The First Tee paired as teammates with wounded veterans and Special Olympics golfers from around the country. In addition to playing two rounds of golf at some of the top courses in the nation’s capital, golfers will also enjoy a welcome banquet, a career exploration day at Perfect Sense, a tour of DC’s monuments and museums, and a final send off at Top Golf!

2019 LEAGUE DAY

This Monday, July 1st is League Day at Elmwood Golf Course for our The First Tee Participants due to the off week of classes due to the Holiday.  For participants ages 7-9 they will play the Junior Holes, for 10 and older they will play the East 9.  If interested in signing up please email thefirstteesouthdakota@yahoo.com.  Those who are signed up already please take a look at your tee times…CLICK HERE.

Max Martin Life skills and Leadership Academy

Max Martin, Ace Participant at The First Tee of South Dakota, was recently selected to attend the Joe Louis Barrow, Jr. Life Skills and Leadership Academy in East Lansing, MI. At the academy, Max received golf and leadership instruction from the nation’s top coaches while delving into career exploration. SEcond Annual Irwin Cup

In early August, the First Tee of South Dakota was asked to play in the Irwin Cup, a Ryder Cup-style golf tournament in Lake City, Minnesota. Golfers from Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin and South Dakota battled it out in an 18 hole tournament for a change to win the coveted Irwin Cup.

Golfers from The First Tee of South Dakota included Reese Jansa, Sophie Jansa, Cody Koepke, Jack Kray, Luke Martin, Max Martin, Shannon McCormick and Mattie Weidenbach.

 

 

 

 

Gavin Van Zee Memorial Golf Tournament

On June 15th, Elmwood Golf Course was honored to host the 1st Annual Gavin Van Zee Memorial Golf Tournament. The event was held in remembrance of Gavin, a fun loving, eight year old boy who was involved in a tragic accident that took his life much too soon.

The tournament was a huge success and the proceeds from the event were generously donated to The First Tee of South Dakota.
